Brittle nails are caused by the many simple things we do every day. For instance, do you wear rubber gloves when washing the dishes? Or when you use cleaning products? If you answered no to these 2 questions, it’s enough to find out that you are the cause for your little problem. Here are a few tips and tricks to get rid of brittle nails and toughen them up:

First of all, aside to remembering to wear rubber gloves when doing house chores, please keep and mind that your nails are not instruments for opening soda cans nor there are not for scratching nail polish stains on your work table, for example.

If you have a job that requires you washing your hands several times a day, wear your nails short. It’s not just a way of keeping them healthy, but it is also the current trend. Long nails are out this season. Cute, small, colorful nails are in.

A big NO is chewing your nails. By doing so you create gaps on your nail line which brings along nails exfoliation. By cutting your nails using a proper manicure tool, you create a smooth line, thus avoiding this problem.

The best natural remedies for brittle, exfoliating nails include:

ONION

Onion helps to toughen the nails and also prevents infection. To use it as a remedy for brittle nails all you have to do is to cut an onion in half and keep your nails in it for 5 minutes.

After this, make sure you don’t wash your hands for 2 hours. It is recommended to use this treatment at night, before bed, at least 3 times a week.

GARLIC

You need one clove of garlic, one cup of water and the juice from one lemon. Crush the garlic and place it in a small pot along with the water. Boil it until the water is almost completely evaporated and get it off the heat. Add the lemon juice, place the liquid in a small jar and keep it in the fridge for a couple of hours. Dip a piece of cotton in the liquid and damp every nail (make sure you remove your nail polish before applying the treatment). Leave it overnight, once every 2 days.

OLIVE OIL

At low heat, gently cook a tablespoon of olive oil with 5 drops of lemon juice (add the lemon juice after the oil is warm and off the heat). Dip a piece of cotton in and use it to damp every nail. Leave it to act for 5 minutes and afterward put on cotton gloves and leave overnight. In the morning you won’t have to wash your hands. The oil will be completely absorbed by then and your nails will be left shiny and healthy.
